Qwest TV - Louis Armstrong and His All Stars - RTBF

Back in the sixties, people liked to criticize Louis Armstrong, often pointing out what they saw as his Uncle Tom behavior and some dramatic performances. But it's hard to ignore that he was an amazing artist. He brought pure joy and a strong sense of community to the stage, which Manu Dibango often talks about. Satchmo was the first real jazz soloist, a trumpet player with a one-of-a-kind tone and amazing vibrato, adding great depth to his ballads and showing endless energy. He was an incomparable singer who transformed every song he performed, like C’est si bon, Mack the Knife, and When the Saints Go Marching In. While Jack Teagarden and Barney Bigard are no longer with his All-Stars, Billy Kyle really stands out.
